San José, Costa Rica
Eligibility: You must be a sophomore or higher upon arrival to Costa Rica and meet WIU study abroad eligibility requirements. Open to all majors.
Location: San José is the capital and the largest city of Costa Rica. Located in the Central Valley, San José is the seat of the national government, the focal point of political and economic activity, and the major transportation hub for the country. The population of San José Canton is approximately 366,000 though the metropolitan area stretches beyond the canton limits and comprises a third of the country’s population. Universidad Veritas is located in the eastern part of the city (Zapote), ten minutes from downtown San José.
Academics: Universidad Veritas is a private Art, Design and Architecture University. There are approximately 1,800 students enrolled in seven different schools: Architecture, Advertising Design, Digital Animation, Film & Television, Interior Space Design, Product Design and Photography. The majority of courses are taught in Spanish and a number of courses are available in English. Intensive Spanish language courses are also available and program durations range from four weeks to a whole semester.
Housing: You can choose to stay in one of the privately owned residencies located near the campus or in a homestay with a local family. Homestays provide you with your own private room and breakfast and dinner daily, seven days per week. In addition, laundry service is provided once a week. All families live within walking distance (less than a mile) from campus; however, Veritas has a shuttle system that goes back and forth to the neighborhood for students who have evening classes.
Internships: 8-16 week internships are available either with intensive Spanish language or by themselves.
